We are proud of all of these students who were honored last week for their ability to use "self control". Way to BEE, Junior Jackets!
Please join us tomorrow for Family Night at South Elementary from 6:00-7:00.
Mr. DeRosia's fifth graders came to South today to work with first graders on some light challenges in the STEAM lab. It was fantastic to see the collaboration between "bigs and littles"!
Kindergartners read the story The Snow Dancer in STEAM lab and then created their own snow dancers. Making them move with magnets was quite exciting!!
This week our staff spotlight is on Ms. Emma Ward, a parapro at South and our Latch Key Director. In the summer, she enjoys dirt track races and going to her grandma's house on the lake. Ms. Ward's favorite season is the Fall because she loves the changing colors of the leaves. In her free time, Ms. Ward enjoys long walks and hanging out with friends and family.
First graders learned about reflection today and were challenged to make light travel through mazes using mirrors and flashlights. They collaborated to tackle some pretty challenging mazes.
Today was our first day using our reading book bags. Students are practicing the skill "Read To Self!" Each child selected books for their bag. Students are building reading stamina using the red words & sounds they have mastered!
Great job kindergarten kiddos!

Miss Hartman's class enjoyed their pizza party last week after collecting the most coins during November's 'Coins for a Cause'. Our Junior Jackets collected over $500 in our collaboration with United Way to raise money for our local homeless shelter, the 'Hope House'.
Save the Date for Literati Book Fair: March 4-8th, Family Fun Night being Wednesday March 6th 5-8pm. Yay! for Book Fair!
We are excited to display our Yellowjacket pride on our window at South Elementary!
These kindergarten kiddos are AMAZING! In the beginning of the school year they could not log on to an iPad by themselves or pass levels in Boggle. Now they have mastered using an iPad and using Boggle Math! Mrs. Miranda Beach has done a wonderful job developing skills with each student.
Great Job Junior Jackets!

First graders learned about light sources today and used their STEAM skills to make their own light source models. The lab was filled with lamps, headlights, watches, flashlights, and more!
