Congratulations to our 2024 Ithaca Graduates. Thank you for coming to see us!

Last Friday, May 17th, the 6th graders had the opportunity to go to the Sloan Museum of Discovery and also watch "We Are Stars" at Flint Longway Planetarium. Both of these were sponsored by our PTO. The students were able to explore and discover many hands-on science experiments, take a walk thru the past in the historical gallery as well as see some unique cars too. Again many thanks to the PTO for helping sponsor this trip along with the many parent volunteers who helped chaperone the trip as well.

3rd-5th graders at North Elementary enjoyed an amazing opportunity to attend the CMU vs. WMU baseball game!

5th graders enjoyed a fun and engaging day at the CMU baseball game!

It may looks like a bunch of beans to you, but these sixth graders are learning what happens when organisms use the same resource - competition! They competed to "eat" as many beans as possible and graphed the data to decide if "spoons" or "hand claws" were better competitors. They learned competition between individuals makes it harder to gather food, which makes organisms grow less and have fewer babies, which makes their population less likely to increase.

Sixth graders collaborated to construct working hydraulic machines in STEAM lab!

Thank you to Dr. Dorr from Ithaca Animal Hospital and Mrs. Helwig for coming in and talking with our third graders about being a veterinarian and taking care of animals.

Last Thursday, May 9th our 6th graders got a chance to visit the Junior/Senior High School to find out where their classes will be and to meet their new teachers as well. We had the honor to have some outstanding tour guides by our former students who are currently in 7th or 8th grade.

A Gratiot County Courthouse committee selected these 5th grade students for the best coloring of Courthouse's new logo. Their excellence in creativity earned them this selection!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! The PTO placed a very special welcoming sign to kick-off our week in front of the school! We appreciate each and every staff member here at North Elementary! Thanks for all you do!

Last week was great for 4th graders! Ms. Zimmer brought her tortoises in and led an informative discussion about adaptations! One of their favorite facts was that they let the air out of their lungs in order to make room to pull their head and legs in! We also had a presentation from employees of Mercantile Bank. They came to help students explore budgeting and basic economics. They loved figuring out how much money they would need to get a hamster!

Summer School Registration is now open! A letter and form like the ones below went home in Friday Folders last week. . Please fill out the back of the form and return it to school by Friday, May 17th to get your child on the list!

Thank you to all of the people who helped with our school woods clean-up today! We put up signs, cleared trails, and enjoyed the wonderful woods!!

We want to send a big THANK YOU to Gratiot County Community Foundation for awarding us with a grant that we were able to use the funds for making sure every 6th grader was able to attend camp last week! We were able to take every 6th grader to camp and enjoy all of the many outdoor educational experiences at Camp Henry in Newaygo. Thank you again to Gratiot County Community Foundation for your support!

Our PTO is the best! Thank you for appreciating teachers every day!

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Leadership. Leadership means you value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best.
