Students engaged in reading CVC words!

Day 3 of Summer School at South! We learned how to properly plant and care for strawberry seeds so we can make healthy food choices in the near future when our plants grow!

Imagine spending your summer mornings learning about nutrition, reading great stories, solving interesting math problems, writing stories, creating crafts, playing with friends, and so much more! South Elementary Summer Program engages young learners with a variety of learning experiences in a fun & creative atmosphere! Thank you to these amazing students for demonstrating enthusiastic learning!

First day is summer school and our creative arts class made straw airplanes! These things went pretty far!

Our last 2nd grade recycling group of the year! Thank you second graders for helping our school!

That’s a wrap! Bitter sweet as we are excited for summer , yet emotional about not seeing our Kindergarten “family”. Take time to smell the roses, enjoy the little things, and love your children. These little ones don’t stay little very long. ❤️

We made it!! Happy last day of Kindergarten!

Grant wanted to dress like Mr. Kanine for the last day of school!

The DK and Kindergarten students presented Mr. Kanine with this special poster to let him know a few of the reasons why we think he's the best principal! Each student also signed their name on the back of the poster. ❤️

Mrs. Hessbrook's Kindergarten Class celebrated the last full day of school at the Charles Teegardin-Church of God Playground in Ithaca today. We played, enjoyed freeze popsicles, and played some more. It was so nice just to enjoy each other's company for 90 minutes! This group of children encourage me to believe this world is an AMAZING place in their sweet hands! Thank you to Ithaca bus driver Mr. Steve MeComber for transporting us to the park, Ms. Amanda Stec for helping chaperone, and Ithaca Church of God for scheduling our visit!
Happy last (half-day) of school tomorrow Ithaca Yellowjackets!
Have a safe & happy summer!

South Elementary and 2nd grade enjoyed our 2nd Grade Farewell. Have an awesome summer and make 3rd grade great class of 2033!!

The Gratiot Community Foundation awarded the GSRP Preschool classrooms a grant to fund these materials, along with a slide, for expanding our Outdoor Area to include more Play-Based Learning through STEAM. The materials also allow students to learn based on the 5 principles of our HighScope Curriculum Active Learning Principles: "Materials, Manipulation, Choice, Language and Thought, and Scaffolding." These materials provide the opportunity for students to advance their growth by aligning with many or our curriculum's objectives too. The students enjoyed utilizing the materials, while learning, and we look forward to next year's students using them too!

As a reward for working so hard this school year, Mrs. Schaeding gave her students the opportunity to pie her in the face! Success never tasted so sweet!

2nd graders had a blast at Reed Park!

Field Day!! I loved seeing all the smiles and hearing all the belly laughs. Thank you Mr. Rayburn for organizing this fun day for our students! 😃 💦

A big thank you to Mr. Josh Rayburn & Ithaca High School student helpers for an amazing South Elementary Field Day! Water was definitely part of the theme for each of our kindergarten centers, but I don't think our students minded. After participating in all four centers, our Ithaca PTO had frozen freeze sticks for students to enjoy.
Thank you to everyone who made this a Monday to remember!

Happy Friday from Mrs. Hessbrook's Kindergarten Room.
After a week of learning it is time to practice words in shaving cream & do the "Dino-Stomp!" These fabulous kids have some great moves! Three & 1/2 days left next week!
Happy Weekend Everyone!

Hurrah for our South 2nd grade recycling helpers for May and June! Thanks for picking up our classroom recycling and helping to reuse our paper!

Our 2nd graders help with weekly recycling at South! These students helped during April. Thank you for volunteering!

Thank you March 2nd Grade Recycling Helpers! Volunteers to help our South community be green!
