This week, our 6th graders showed their citizenship by creating a special banner in honor of this Friday’s high school football game celebrating our Veterans. Today, they proudly presented it to our very own RTC coordinator, Mr. Pendell, who is not only a leader in our school but also a Veteran. We are so thankful for the Veterans in our community and the example they set for our students every day.

After learning that basset hounds have structures like long ears, long noses, and short legs to help with their sense of smell, fourth graders were challenged to create recycled item basset hound models. Take a look at the items they used to represent those important structures!

Our 5th graders put their decimal skills to the test in a real-world challenge today! Students became shoppers as they compared gas prices from different “stations” around the classroom. They were tasked with finding the cheapest gas for different vehicles and drivers, using their knowledge of comparing decimals to make smart choices. This hands-on activity helped students see how math connects to everyday situations. They had a blast working together to solve the challenges!

This image shows what 6th graders foresee in their future. After all, 6th grade is the midpoint of their school journey! The activity, designed to inspire hope, empower vision, and celebrate the pursuit of excellence, had each student draw what he or she looked forward to for their senior year! Hopefully you can zoom in and take a closer look.

Ever wondered how models can help us understand the world? Our 6th graders are diving into the NGSS science practice by developing and using models to show us how to create their favorite breakfast foods! Throughout the year, developing and using models will help them understand key science concepts across all units. This practice will be crucial all year long!

Sixth graders practiced their environmental engineering skills after learning about an interesting beaver relocation project carried out in Idaho in the 1950s. Their challenge was to design boxes that would keep wooden block "beavers" safe while parachuting in the air, but open upon landing.
