It may looks like a bunch of beans to you, but these sixth graders are learning what happens when organisms use the same resource - competition! They competed to "eat" as many beans as possible and graphed the data to decide if "spoons" or "hand claws" were better competitors. They learned competition between individuals makes it harder to gather food, which makes organisms grow less and have fewer babies, which makes their population less likely to increase.

Last Thursday, May 9th our 6th graders got a chance to visit the Junior/Senior High School to find out where their classes will be and to meet their new teachers as well. We had the honor to have some outstanding tour guides by our former students who are currently in 7th or 8th grade.

Last week was great for 4th graders! Ms. Zimmer brought her tortoises in and led an informative discussion about adaptations! One of their favorite facts was that they let the air out of their lungs in order to make room to pull their head and legs in! We also had a presentation from employees of Mercantile Bank. They came to help students explore budgeting and basic economics. They loved figuring out how much money they would need to get a hamster!

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Leadership. Leadership means you value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best. “When the world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful...Let us remember: one book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.’”--MALALA YOUSAFZAI
